Amid the bustle of the Paris Motor Show, Bose has introduced its first small vehicle sound system in the new Nissan Micra with speakers built right into the headrest.
The Framingham-based high-end sound system producer has had systems featured in high-end automobiles since the early 1980s, but this system is a new direction for the company and required a re-thinking of the design of an in-car sound system, according to a release.
This was accomplished by building a pair of lightweight speakers right into the driver’s headrest. It was designed that way because the driver is the only occupant always in the car, according to Bose. The system also includes three additional speakers and two tweeters for passengers.
The system will be available in the Nissan Micra when European deliveries begin in March 2017. This car is smaller than any American model sold by Nissan and is not distributed in the United States.
Following the Nissan Micra, additional models with the Bose Small Vehicle Series systems will be coming to global markets from various car makers.
