Amar G. Bose, the founder and chairman of Framingham-based audio technology company Bose Corp., died July 12. He was 83.
Bose President Bob Maresca announced the founder's death on Friday, releasing a statement on the company website, though details of Bose's death weren't revealed.
The homepage has been redesigned as a temporary memorial to Bose, a Wayland resident and engineering graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A classical music enthusiast, Bose founded the privately-held company in 1964.
"It is impossible to put into words what Dr. Bose meant to each of us, and to Bose. He was more than our chairman. He was our teacher — always encouraging us, always believing we could do great things, and that anything was possible," Maresca said.
Maresca said the company will remain true to Bose's guiding principles, remaining privately held.
"We are as committed to this as he was to us. His vision is our history and our future, and Bose Corp. will forever be his company," Maresca said.
Bose, a member of the MIT faculty until his retirement in 2001, gave MIT the majority of the company's stock in the form of nonvoting shares in 2011 to support education and research.
