Boost Fitness acquired by NYC fitness chain

Hudson-based Boost Fitness and its eight Massachusetts locations have been acquired by a New York City-based nationwide chain of gyms.

Crunch Fitness announced earlier this week its Connecticut franchisee, Fitness Holdings LLC, acquired the Central Massachusetts chain of independent fitness clubs.

Before it was acquired, Boost operated eight locations in Worcester, Hudson, Auburn, Oxford, Fitchburg, Franklin, Tewksbury and Westford. The gyms were converted to Crunch Fitness clubs and began operating under that identity of Jan. 1, according to Crunch.

Boost Fitness’ founder, Mark Federico, will join Fitness Holdings LLC as a partner and is now its president for New England.

Fitness Holdings LLC partner Steve Sicardi said the company looks forward to working with Federico and his 15 years of experience.

Boost Fitness in September opened its eighth location in Fitchburg, an 18,000-square-foot gym representing the chain’s first location in North County and made it the largest independent chain of fitness centers in the state, Federico said at the time.

Crunch said it’s planning an aggressive growth strategy for the East Coast, with plans to open more than 50 gyms from Boston to Philadelphia by 2022.

According to Crunch's website, memberships start at just under $10 per month, similar to the pricing structure for Boost.
