CPA office targets mid-size firms
ollus Lynch, LLP Certified Public Accountants and Consultants knows the value of combining national-level accounting experience and resources with local, personalized service. Each of the firm’s five partners brings more than a decade of national accounting firm experience to its Worcester-based practice. In fact, BollusLynch’s partners have combined national and local experience that exceeds one hundred years.
Perhaps that’s why so many of the company’s clients, nearly 80 percent, are former customers of national CPA firms. From contractors and manufacturers to colleges and museums, the diverse array of businesses that count on Bollus Lynch for audit, tax and general business advisory services have discovered that its quality, style and philosophy not only rival those of big CPA firms, but often surpass them, says Michael Bollus, partner and founder. "We attract the who’s who of middle-market companies because of our reputation," he says.
Bollus Lynch was founded in 1989 by four partners who had worked for years in the Worcester office of international accounting firm KPMG, LLP. As the industry consolidated, such national firms began focusing more on larger public companies and abandoning the middle market private firms. Bollus and his partners decided to start their own practice, so they could continue to serve the private middle market companies - those with between $3 million and $150 million in revenue, headquarterd in Central Massachusetts.
Launched at 33 Waldo St. with four partners and one receptionist, Bollus Lynch grew rapidly, expanding to a staff of 15 within two years. In 1996, it moved to larger quarters at 10 Mechanic St., where it now employs 23. In 2001, the firm acquired a practice in Portland, ME, which it operates as a satellite office to serve its northern New England clients.
Bollus Lynch offers specialized industry practices to such clients as manufacturers, construction firms, not-for-profits and financial institutions. But in keeping with its local focus, the firm strives to be as practical and cost-effective as possible. Says Bollus: "We stay on top of the changing marketplace and regulatory climate to ensure that our clients get the best proactive continuous first-rate service."
When a company becomes a client, it isn’t just the client of one of the firm’s partners. Each customer is served by the entire firm, with all the resources and expertise that it has to offer.
Unlike some smaller CPA firms that only gear up for tax time, Bollus Lynch remains a stable financial resource for clients throughout the year. It not only offers expertise on financial statements, audits and tax preparation, but it also assists companies with their budget and forecast needs, internal audit services, merger and acquisition consultation, estate tax planning, business valuations, on-site accounting training and even litigation support. Should a company need the resources of a national-level firm, Bollus Lynch is a member of an alliance with one of the nation’s largest accounting and consulting firms, BDO Seidman LLP.
Bollus Lynch’s main office is located in downtown Worcester and is fully automated with state-of-the-art technology. It boasts an accounting, auditing and tax library and publication services that are the most advanced and complete of any firm its size in this region.
Looking ahead, Bollus says his firm’s main goal is to continue to be one of the leading CPA firms serving leading middle market companies in New England, and to continue to grow in that role by attracting the top accounting talent in the region.
