Board of Medicine disciplines MetroWest doctors

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine has taken disciplinary actions against the medical licenses of two doctors practicing in Framingham and Marlborough.

At its meeting on June 2, the board suspended the medical license of Tyrone S. Cushing after finding that he “poses an immediate and serious threat to the public health, safety and welfare” and failed to meet the standard of care for proper medical practices, the board announced in a release. Dr. Cushing allegedly improperly certified the medical use of marijuana for a pregnant patient with whom he did not have a bona fide physician-patient relationship.

Dr. Cushing has been licensed in Massachusetts since 1976 and has worked at CannaMed in Framingham since early 2013. Dr. Cushing was previously disciplined by the Board, but details were not provided about this instance.

The board also accepted the resignation of the license to practice medicine of Dr. Jane H. Joiner. Resignation is a disciplinary action that permanently removes a physician from the practice of medicine. Dr. Joiner has been licensed in Massachusetts since 1978. Until May 1, 2016, Dr. Joiner worked at a group practice in Marlborough.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine licenses more than 40,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists. The Board was created in 1894 to protect the public health and safety by setting standards for the practice of medicine and ensuring that doctors who practice in the Commonwealth are appropriately qualified and competent.
