Andrew Dreyfus will step down at the end of 2022 as president and CEO at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
In making the announcement Thursday afternoon, board chair Dorothy Puhy said Blue Cross "has been consistently rated one of the nation's top health plans for member satisfaction and quality" while Dreyfus was president and called the construction of a more diverse and inclusive workforce and culture under his leadership a "hallmark of his tenure."
The company's board plans to begin a national search for Dreyfus' successor.
Dreyfus spent nearly 12 years as CEO, overseeing a company that serves 2.9 million members and 24,000 employer customers, has 67,000 providers in its clinical network, and posts annual revenue of more than $8 billion.
Dreyfus joined Blue Cross in 2005, after working at the Massachusetts Hospital Association for 11 years. A Connecticut College graduate, the former editor of the South End News joined the state workforce in 1983, working in communications during the Dukakis administration, before spending a year as undersecretary of the Executive Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
