The Blackstone Valley Education Hub has been awarded a $125,000 grant from Gov. Charlie Baker’s office for the organization’s eVoke Manufacturing Network.
The group will use the grant funding to provide collaborative educators, businesses and workforce partners with manufacturing and engineering equipment to support student projects and prototyping.
Specifically, the grant will help support the purchase of a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, a manual lathe, a coordinate measuring machine and virtual reality welders, according to the organization.Â
Jeannie Hebert, president and CEO of the education hub’s parent organization the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement the equipment will allow the chamber to align with area manufacturers to help develop curricula in local schools.
The award was announced by the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration Monday. Along nearly $3.3 million in skills capital grants to 31 high schools and educational institutions, another $12 million is available for schools to apply for now via Baker’s economic development bill passed in 2018. Grants range from $50,000 to $500,000.
