Blackstone Valley chamber gets $95K for manufacturing education

The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a $95,000 grant to implement a work-based learning program to connect students with career opportunities in the region.
The grant, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will be used to bring its Career Readiness Lab to the Blackstone Valley. The program seeks to help fill the talent gap in manufacturing by developing and implementing strategic programming to promote leading work-based learning and employment practices.
Each chamber selected will be implementing an innovative program to create opportunities for students and employers.
For this program, the Blackstone Valley Education Hub Advanced Manufacturing Career Readiness Program’s remote classroom will serve 10 high school districts with an employer-led curriculum.
That curriculum will be driven by local manufacturer demand and directly aligned with current gaps in the local workforce.
“We are so very proud to have been selected by the US Chamber for the Career Readiness Lab,” said Jeannie Hebert, President and CEO of the BVCC, in a press release. “This is a great honor indeed and an even greater opportunity for the Blackstone Valley Education Hub to develop innovative workforce training programs with our manufacturers and our Valley schools that can be shared across the nation.”
The lab will begin in January and end in summer 2020.
