Westborough-based retail chain BJ’s Wholesale Club is set to acquire four temperature-controlled food distribution centers and their assets from longtime partner Burris Logistics, the company announced Tuesday.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The four distribution centers are located in the following:
“As we continue to accelerate our new club growth, broaden our footprint, and expand our fresh food offerings, we are excited to insource these capabilities to support our future growth,” said Bob Eddy, president and CEO of BJ’s, in a statement.
The deal includes the acquisition of Burris’ transportation fleet and employees.
“This acquisition represents the next chapter in Burris Logistics’ evolution and presents amazing opportunities for both BJ’s and the team members at these distribution centers,” said Donnie Burris, CEO of Burris Logistics, in a statement. “I am incredibly proud of what we have created and [I’m] extremely excited to see the future growth for all involved.”
The acquisition was approved unanimously by both companies’ board of directors, and is currently awaiting regulatory approval. It is expected to be finalized in second quarter.
Burris, a Delaware company, has operated since 1925 and has provided distribution services for BJ’s for more than two decades.
BJ’s Wholesale Club operates 225 clubs and 156 BJ’s Gas locations in 17 states.
This expansion follows BJ’s planning on opening three new locations this January.
