(Updated at 12:42 p.m.) Beginning on September 8, Christopher J. Baldwin will take over as the president and chief operating officer of Westborough-based BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc., the company announced Monday.
Baldwin, who has over 30 years of experience in the retail and consumer products industry, was most recently the CEO of the Hess Retail Corporation. Before joining Hess, Baldwin served in a variety of leadership roles including president of the snacks division at Kraft Foods (Nabisco), president of the Hershey Company's North American division, and several executive roles at Procter and Gamble.
“I am privileged and excited to have the opportunity to join BJ’s terrific team,” Baldwin said in a release. “BJ’s operates a unique and well positioned model within the very exciting wholesale club retail channel. I look forward to working with BJ’s executives, team members, and its Board of Directors to help bring value to all our stakeholders.”
Baldwin will be responsible for business operations and will also join BJ’s Board of Directors. BJ’s operates 208 clubs and 123 gas stations in 15 eastern states. Laura Sen will continue to serve as the company's chief executive officer after handing the title of president off to Baldwin.
“I am very excited to welcome Chris to the BJ’s team,” Sen said in a statement. “Chris’ record of excellence in leading large and successful organizations in the retail and consumer sectors will help us to build upon BJ’s strong heritage of offering a distinctive shopping experience and deep value proposition to BJ’s millions of loyal members.”
(Note: This story has been updated to correct an earlier version, which reported that Baldwin was named CEO. Laura Sen continues to hold that role.)
