BJ's same-store sales drop

Natick-based BJ's Wholesale Club announced its September sales, recording a 0.9% decrease on a comparable club basis.  In September of last year, the company reported a comparable club sales increase of 3.8%.

BJ's achieved sales of $751 million in September of '06, a 2.1% increase over the $735.8 million noted at the same time last year.  Despite the lower than anticipated results for the first two months of the quarter, BJ's anticipates reporting earnings in line with its previous guidance of $.25 to $.30 per diluted share.

Comparable club sales increases were noted in Metro New York, upstate New York, and the Southeast regions.  Decreases occurred in the Mid Atlantic and New England regions.
