Marlborough-based BJ's Wholesale Club is opening its first new Massachusetts location in 13 years.
BJ’s will open a location at Springfield Crossing, located at 1655 Boston Road in Springfield on Dec. 12. The new club will be its 26th in Massachusetts, according to a company press release issued Tuesday.
Springfield Crossing is an ongoing plaza redevelopment headed by Boston-based Atlantic Retail at the former site of the Eastfield Mall, according to Western Mass News.
Its most recent Massachusetts opening was its Seekonk club in 2012, according to a company press release at the time.
The new Springfield location will be joined by a new club in Sumter, South Carolina, opening on Dec. 12, followed by a new location in Casselberry, Florida, opening on Dec. 17.
The Sumter location is the company’s third in South Carolina, while the Casselberry club is its 42nd in Florida. All three new locations will include on-site BJ’s Gas stations, with the gas stations in Springfield and Sumter already open.
BJ’s operates 257 clubs and 194 gas stations across 21 states. The company has been expanding, opening new distribution centers to support more club openings, as its membership has swelled to more than 8 million.
The opening of the new Springfield location comes as wholesale club rival Costco is pursuing new locations in BJ’s home territory of Central Massachusetts, with plans for locations in Southborough and Leominster in the works.
