Natick-based BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. reported September sales of $892.8 million, an 11.8 percent increase over the $798.9 million the company reported for September 2007.
Same-store sales increased by 10.4 percent over the same period and were helped by a 4.8 percent increase as a result of the sale of gasoline. The company said store traffic increased by 4 percent compared to last year and the average transaction increased by about 1 percent.
Food sales increased by 10 percent while the sale of general merchandise increased by 3 percent. The company said the relatively small increase in general merchandise sales was the result of fewer sales of televisions, jewelry and toys compared to last year.
