Biz confidence soars in October

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts reports that the Business Confidence Index gained 2.6 points in October, rising to 59.6 - it's highest reading in 20 months.

Employers in the Bay State felt positive about national economic conditions, due to rising stocks, falling energy prices, and favorable news on interest rates, said Raymond Torto, chair of A.I.M.'s Board of Economic Advisors.

The index also showed that manufacturers' confidence rose, climbing 5.3 points to 61.8.  Manufacturers were positive about employment, sales, and business conditions, with confidence stronger in Greater Boston than other parts of the state.

A.I.M.'s monthly business index is based on a survey of A.I.M. member companies across Massachusetts, asking questions about current and prospective business conditions in the state and the nation, as well as each organization.
