Biotech lab developer to purchase MetroWest Daily News building

Zachary Comeau The former MetroWest Daily News building was cleaned out in December shortly after the staff moved to a smaller Framingham office.

A pharmaceutical and biotech campus development firm is set to purchase the former MetroWest Daily News building in Framingham.

Cambridge-based King Street Properties on Friday confirmed via email it has an agreement to purchase the vacant 90,000-square-foot building on 10 acres of land from New York-based GateHouse Media, the paper’s parent company.

The 33 New York Avenue building has been vacant since December, when the shrinking Daily News staff relocated to a smaller office on Speen Street in Framingham.

The space is located in an office park flanked by tech and life science companies, including Bose and Sanofi Genzyme.

Tyson Reynoso, a senior associate with King Street properties, confirmed the purchase agreement in an email, but did not disclose the price or plans for the space.

Plans will be presented to the city at a future date, he said.

As of Friday, no sale has been recorded in the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds.

According to the company’s website, it operates 10 large science and laboratory campuses in the Greater Boston area. If the sale and development of the Framingham site goes through, it would be the company’s first location west of the I-95 corridor.

Representatives from GateHouse Media could not immediately be reached for comment. The company announced in June it was seeking a buyer for the property.
