The Milford Big Y supermarket has finally been completely renovated as part of a $5.4 million project to renovate two newly-acquired stores.

Springfield-based Big Y announced Wednesday the completion renovations at stores in Milford and Easton, nearly two years after the company acquired the stores as part of a merger.

Included in both stores are self-scan registers to help speed up checkout lines.

In Milford, upgrades include a brand new seafood department with a fish fry operation, new bakery displays, a new food service department, and a new customer cafe.

The store was also outfitted for new decor, fixtures, LED lighting and other cosmetic upgrades.

An additional five employees were added with the remodel, bringing the total to 135, Big Y said.

The store changed hands in June 2016 as part of a merger of Hannaford parent company Delhaize Group and Stop & Shop parent company Ahold – both Europe-based retailers – that includes divesting 86 grocery stores.

One of those stores was the Milford store, formerly a Hannaford, which was owned by Delhaize Group before the merger.

Hannaford had occupied the 95,000-square-foot building since 2004 after Victory Super Markets sold the location along with 18 others in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The building was built in 1994.
