Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest has hired Connie Askin as its new CEO, the first woman to hold the position at the nonprofit branch, the board of directors announced on Monday.
Askin’s tenure began on Tuesday.
Askin replaces longtime CEO Jeffrey Chin, who led the nonprofit for over eight years, leaving his post in July, according to his LinkedIn. Aside from serving on the boards of the United Way of Central Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, Chin doesn't list any new employment on his LinkedIn account. He gained added notoriety in 2018 when he started an eight-month tour of the war in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves, after which he returned to BBBS.
Askin has worked in senior level positions in business and nonprofit groups, according to Monday’s announcement, including City Year Boston and Year Up Boston.
Askin holds an MBA from Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in Wellesley. She attended Harvard University in Cambridge as an undergraduate.
