Best Buy, one of the last major retailers in the Greendale Mall, will close at the end of November.
The Richfield, Minn.-based company said via a spokesman the company decided not to renew its lease with the Worcester mall.
Jeff Shelman, senior director of communications and issues management, said the store’s last day would be on Nov. 7.
A total of 35 full-time workers are employed at the store, said Shelman, who declined to say how many part-time workers would also lose their jobs.
The 45,000-square-foot store opened in 1999, but shoppers have recently frequented other Central Mass. stores more than the one in Worcester, including stores in Millbury and Marlborough, Shelman said.
The future of the building as a mall is unclear. City Manager Edward Augustus in January informed the City Council the mall’s owners, C-III Capital Partners, plan to sell the 300,000-square-foot building.
The Irving, Texas-based firm bought the property via a foreclosure auction in 2016 for $11.8 million.
C-III Capital Partners could not immediately be reached for comment.
The mall was built in 1987 and was last assessed in 2018 for $12.8 million.
Other notable remaining tenants in the mall include TJ Maxx, Homegoods, DSW, Lenscrafters and GNC.
According to the mall’s website, 16 stores -- including Best Buy -- occupy the 43 total spaces in the mall.
