Dennis D. Berkey, president and CEO of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has been named to the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Berkey was elected to a three-year term on the 49-member board.
NAICU represents private nonprofit colleges and universities on policy issues with the federal government.
Berkey has been president of WPI since 2004 after three decades at various other higher education positions. He is a member of the executive committee of college and university presidents for the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts and a steering committee member of the Leaders For Education coalition. He also serves on the boards of UMass Memorial Health Care Inc., MBI, the Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Initiative, and the Worcester Regional Research Bureau.
