Bellingham firm receives $17K worker safety grant

Bellingham millwork provider Van Lumber Inc. was among 10 companies that split $162,948 in grant funding from the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development to help train employees in workplace safety and injury prevention.

Van Lumber received $17,000 to provide forklift training and discuss fire prevention and manual lifting. It was the only Central Massachusetts company to receive the awards announced Tuesday.

This is the final round of grants to be administered by the Department of Industrial Accidents this fiscal year. A total of $696,000 was awarded to 44 companies this fiscal year to train nearly 5,000 workers.
