Becker College in Worcester has named a former Pennsylvania educator as its dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

Mary Ellen Mahoney will begin her post as dean of the college’s fifth school this month after most recently serving as executive director of Graduate and Extended Studies Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Mahoney now heads the college’s new school, which just launched in July.

During her time at Saint Joseph’s University, Mahoney was responsible for recruitment and retention for more than 30 graduate degree and certificate programs, retention for 25 undergraduate programs, the launch of new graduate programs and implementation of new marketing and recruiting strategies.

She also served as director of admissions in the School of Adult and Graduate Education at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Penn. and enrollment coordinator for the School of Graduate and Adult Education at Alvernia University in Reading, Penn.

“Becker College’s mission to provide transformative learning experiences resonates deeply with me,” Mahoney said in a press release. “Throughout my career, my passion has been working with adults to transform their lives by reaching their educational goals.”

The new school was previously headed on an interim basis by Ursula Furi-Perry, the dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, before the college embarked on a nationwide search for the dean.

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies replaces the Division of Accelerated and Professional Studies.
