Becker College in Worcester has been selected to join the inaugural cohort of First Scholars Network institutions, a group working for first-generation college students.
The Center for First-generation Student Success in Washington, D.C., an initiative of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, or NASPA, as well as The Suder Foundation, announced the inaugural cohort on Tuesday.
Becker joins 31 other institutions, selected by the network, after exhibiting a commitment to helping the advancement of first-generation college students through initiatives, and institution wide approaches.
Becker and Pine Manor College in Newton are the only Massachusetts institutions to take part of the First Scholars Network.
Working with Becker College, First Scholars will collect data to track progress at the college. This will include: identifying gaps, and making choices to improve the outcomes of students, collaborative programming, the preservation of resources, and strengthened enrollment management.
First Scholars supports initiatives to help first-generation college students with guidance, processes, and tools through working with a colleges specific environment.
