Becker College’s fourth school - the School of Humanities and Social Sciences - will open on July 1, teaching criminal justice, legal studies, education, psychology and the humanities to Becker students.
The college announced the formation of its new school last week, along with the renaming of the college’s School of Nursing & Behavioral Sciences to the School of Nursing & Health Sciences.
“This academic restructuring will enhance the academic experience of our ever-growing student body and further strengthens our commitment to preparing graduates for their first to last careers,” said Becker President Nancy Crimmin.
Attorney and legal studies and criminal justice professor Ursula Furi-Perry will head the school as a dean beginning in July. She most recently served as assistant dean of the School of Nursing & Behavioral Sciences.
“The humanities and social sciences are applicable to many fields, from criminal justice to education,” said Furi-Perry. “This realignment fosters collaboration among programs and allows us to focus on practical applications that will ultimately prepare our students for meaningful and successful careers in those fields.”
Last month, the college opened the Colleen C. Barrett Center for Global Innovation & Entrepreneurship, providing tech-savvy students with cutting-edge technology including an augmented-and-virtual reality lab, game studies and an e-sports lab.
