Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester, which was to be emptied to allow the 150-bed facility to be converted into a coronavirus treatment facility, had several patients test positive for the virus, its parent company said Wednesday.
Salmon Health and Retirement of Westborough, which owns the facility, said plans to convert the building to coronavirus care only remains on track to begin April 6.
All residents were assessed for symptoms, and a group was tested for coronavirus, Salmon Health said. The company did not say how many tested positive, but said they will remain at Beaumont, and it was in immediate contact with their families and those of other residents on the same floor.
Residents who did not test positive have been transferred to other Salmon Health facilities.
Salmon Health said it is using protocols developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
