Bean Counter Bakery will open a new location early next year on Grove Street in Worcester to complement its Highland Street location and two sister shops in Shrewsbury.
Bean Counter will open in the same building as the first Worcester branch of bankHometown on a site next to the intersection of Grove and North streets.
Bean Counter, known for its wedding cakes and other baked goods, has outgrown its existing space, Founder and Owner Alice Lombardi said. The Grove Street site, which should open in the late winter or early spring, will act like a commissary kitchen, allowing the nearby Highland Street location to focus a bit more on cafe services, she said.
"It's been a long time coming," Lombardi said of finding the Grove Street location and planning how the space will come together.
Lombardi started the business two decades ago in a licensed kitchen she started in her basement. It was there she began baking for area restaurants, a function Bean Counter still serves today.
The company has two Shrewsbury locations: at 288 Boston Turnpike and another, called Cafe Noir, at 307 Grafton St.
