Bean Counter Bakery Café will open a new flagship location at 270 Grove Street in Worcester, owner Alice Lombardi announced on Monday. An official ribbon-cutting will mark the event on May 20.
The new location in the city’s Salisbury District will be 5,000 square feet.
As part of the grand opening, Lombardi said the café will re-hire its furloughed employees. Store hours will be reduced from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the state’s lockdown continues to ease.
Bean Counter Bakery started in Lombardi’s kitchen 1998 before expanding to its first location on Highland Street in Worcester. Lombardi went on to open two more Bean Counter Bakery shops in Shrewsbury, as well as a second brand, Café Noir, which is also located in Shrewsbury.
The bakery specializes in a variety of baked goods, including wedding cakes and cupcakes, as well as coffee.
The ribbon-cutting will take place at noon and will air virtually on the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page, according to a press release. For a limited time, first responders will be served free coffee, as well as 10% off their purchase, to mark the occasion.
