Bay State No. 2 On Green List

State investment in energy efficiency has landed Massachusetts at the No. 2 spot behind California on the latest list from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

The list, which has been compiled annually for four years, benchmarks state efforts on energy efficiency policies and programs. Specifically the ACEEE looks at: utility and public benefits programs and policies; transportation policies; building energy codes; combined heat and power; state government and initiatives; and appliance efficiency standards.

This is the second year in a row that Massachusetts has occupied the No. 2 position. Rounding out the top 10 behind California and Massachusetts are: Oregon, New York, Vermont, Washington, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Minnesota and Maine.

The five states with the most room for improvement, according to the ACEEE, are: Nebraska, Wyoming, Alabama, Mississippi and North Dakota.
