Bay State Foreclosures Skyrocket In July

Nearly 80 percent more foreclosures were finalized in Massachusetts in July than in the same month a year ago, according to The Warren Group, a Boston-based real estate tracker.

The number of foreclosure deeds filed increased 80 percent from 692 a year ago to 1,243, but declined from June, when 1,315 were recorded.

Also, the number of petitions to foreclose filed by lenders dropped 20 percent to 2,307 compared to the same month a year ago.

So far this year, 8,676 foreclosure deeds have been filed. That’s up 60 percent from last year.

The Warren Group said it expects increasing numbers of foreclosures as long as unemployment remains high.
