The Barr Foundation is giving the Greater Worcester Community Foundation $1 million this year for Worcester arts organizations, the Worcester nonprofit announced Thursday.
That grant doubles what the Boston-based Barr Foundation, which focuses on arts, education and climate initiatives, gave to the Greater Worcester Community Foundation last year.
The Barr Foundation says it has given $30 million over six years to 15 arts organizations across the state through one of its initiatives, ArtsAmplified. It has budgeted $90 million for grants this year, and has given more than $911 million since its founding in 1997.
The Greater Worcester Community Foundation grant was announced at an event Thursday evening at ArtsWorcester featuring the foundation's new president and CEO, Barbara Fields. Fields succeeded Ann Lisi, who retired after leading the organization since 1992.
Fields was announced as the foundation's new head in May, joining the nonprofit from RIHousing, Rhode Island's housing assistance program, where she was the CEO and executive director for four years. Before that, she was the New England regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
