Ballclub launches Polar Park website, Twitter

Polar Park may still be more than two years away, but baseball fans can now get their fix on a website launched by the soon-to-be Worcester Red Sox complete with dozens of renderings and a 120-page master plan.

The plan, dated May 8, was developed by Beyer Blinder Belle, a New York-based architecture firm.

The website appears intended to attempt to both drum up more support for the $240 million project, but also solicit input from residents and fans for the $90 million, 10,000-seat ballpark and redevelopment of the vacant Wyman-Gordon site in the Canal District.

Some never-before-seen conceptual renderings are included in the mast plan, showing a majority of the new development constructed with brick facades, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and outdoor seating areas.

The conceptual plans also show a diner leading into the ballpark site on Summit Street.

Launched simultaneously to the website was Polar Park’s Twitter account, which was launched Sunday in advance of the Worcester’s celebration at City Hall.

On Monday, Polar Park tweeted a video of former Red Sox legend David Ortiz.

“What’s up Worcester! Big Papi in the building!” said the retired slugger.

The city and team appear to be moving fast, since the master plan was apparently completed more than four months ago. The letter of intent signed between the city and ballclub call for construction to start by next July.

The park must be open in time for opening day in April 2021.
