Gov. Charlie Baker will release a task force report and preview new initiatives to be included in his fiscal 2017 budget proposal to reduce chronic unemployment.
After an event at Year Up Boston with Labor Secretary Ron Walker where he will preview the new initiatives, Baker plans to return to the State House to sign legislation passed Thursday by the Legislature that would prohibit the civil commitment of women with substance abuse issues to MCI-Framingham. The administration says women will now be referred to treatment services at Shattuck or Taunton State Hospital.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, Senate Ways and Means Chairwoman Karen Spilka and Attorney General Maura Healey will attend the signing ceremony, according to Baker’s office.
