Gov. Charlie Baker will keynote a joint 50th anniversary celebration of the
Worcester Business Development Corp. (WBDC) and Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) next week.
The celebration will be held Thursday, May 21 on City Hall Plaza starting at 5 p.m.
The meeting will also include remarks from local officials, including Mayor Joseph M. Petty and City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr.
The WBDC will also recognize U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern as this year’s recipient of the Bowditch Economic Development Award, which is given to those who make significant contributions to the economic vitality of Worcester, the organizations announced in a statement.
Also, Classic Envelope will be recognized as this year’s U.S. Small Business Administration “spotlight” company for its efforts to expand the tax base and create new jobs in Central Massachusetts, the organizations said. Meanwhile, WCAC will honor National Grid and Mirick O’Connell as this year’s Community Action Heroes for their support of the agency’s fuel assistance program, as well as other programs targeting the community’s most vulnerable youth and families.
