Average Mass. gas price drops 3 cents

A recent drop in crude oil prices helped push down the cost of gasoline three cents last week, according to AAA Northeast.

The motorist organization’s weekly survey of prices at Massachusetts pumps found that the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded fuel was $2.72, the same as it was a month ago and five cents below the national average.

Compared with July 2014, the average price is 95 cents lower, AAA Northeast said, meaning a 10-gallon purchase last week cost a motorist $9.50 less than a year ago.

“The recent drop in the price of crude oil has translated into savings for consumers at the gas pumps,” said Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs for AAA Northeast.  “Along with strong supplies, these lower prices are excellent news for families traveling during the height of the summer drive vacation season.”
