Auburn’s Sheppard Envelope Mfg. Company is being included in an online history from the Smithsonian National Postal Museum detailing the growth of the postal industry and its connection with private companies.
The envelope manufacturer’s 95 year history will be chronicled on the Smithsonian Postal Museum’s website, according to a release from Sheppard. The research project looked at the 200-year-old partnership between private industry and the United States Postal Service. This virtual exhibit is set to launch Sept. 16.
Sheppard was founded in 1921 in Worcester and now operates out of Auburn at 133 Southbridge St., where it manufactures its products. The company has also expanded beyond envelopes to include RFID (radio frequency identification) blocking passports and smart-card sleeves.
