Atlas Distributing, already identified by WBJ as a founding sponsor of the Worcester Red Sox, officially announced the deal with the team on Thursday.
Though terms of the deal are still being worked out, the agreement will include some advertising opportunities for Auburn-based Atlas around the $101-million ballpark planned for the Canal District.
Atlas, a beer, wine and beverage distributor, will be able to distribute its products around the ballpark.
Dan Rea, executive vice president and general manager of the team, said Atlas was one of the first Worcester-area companies to come aboard.
“They were one of the first corporate partners to really put their hand in the air to volunteer to be part of the founding partner club,” Rea said.
Atlas was identified by the team last month in a list of 19 companies agreeing to be part of that club, along with the Telegram & Gazette, UniBank, The Hanover Insurance Group, Fallon Health and Assumption College.
According to Rea, the list of founding sponsors is now at 21. So far, just Fallon, Assumption and Atlas have formally announced the sponsorship agreements.
