Assumption will lift lockdown on Monday

Assumption University in Worcester will lift its shelter-in-place order at 7 a.m. on Monday, with residential students allowed to move around campus beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, according to a notice distributed to the school’s community.

Last week, the school announced it would lock down for a week beginning Friday, Oct. 30, due to a coronavirus outbreak that had more than one in five students quarantining or isolating out of precaution.

Following the lockdown lift, in-person classes and office work will resume. Masses will also be held in-person, up to 55 individuals, in the school’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit, according to the announcement.

Over the weekend, residential students will be allowed to move around campus, eat in the dining hall by reservation and use food delivery services. They will be allowed to visit each other’s residential halls at a rate of one guest per resident, as long as all people wear masks. They will not be allowed to leave compass except for medical emergencies, and the school’s grounds will remain closed to visitors.

These decisions came following a Thursday morning meeting with the Worcester Department of Public Health, according to the university.
