Assumption University in Worcester named Provost Greg Weiner its interim president as the university looks to replace President Francesco Cesareo, who will retire in June.
Weiner assumed his interim position on Wednesday, according to a Tuesday press release from Assumption. Cesareo will provide support and guidance as president emeritus until his retirement on June 30.
Cesareo, who was the college’s 16th president, announced his plan to retire in March after 15 years in the role.
Weiner began his career at Assumption in 2011, teaching as a political science professor before being appointed provost. He has served on the representative faculty senate and participated in core curriculum revision, as well as Assumption’s transition from a college to a university.
Before his work at Assumption, Weiner was the president and founder of a Washington, D.C.-based public relations firm called Content Communications, LLC. The company advised members of the U.S. president’s cabinet and Congress.
