Assumption names School of Nursing after 1977 alumnus who donated millions

Assumption University in Worcester has named its School of Nursing after a 1977 alumnus following a seven-figure donation to the school, the college announced on Wednesday.

Named for Christopher Froelich, the Froelich School of Nursing is the third of Assumption’s five schools to be named, along with the D’Amour College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Grenon School of Business.

Froelich, who lives in Spring Lake, N.J., holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor of education from Assumption and an MBA from Pepperdine University in California.

A businessman and entrepreneur, Froelich’s family is teeming with medical professionals, including doctors and nurses.

“Given our family’s long history and five generations of dedication to the medical profession, I wanted to acknowledge and celebrate that unique and wonderful family tradition,” said Froelich, in a statement.

The university did not disclose exactly how much money Froelich donated to prompt the school’s name change, only saying it is in the seven figures.
