Assumption University in Worcester will require nearly all students, faculty and staff to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus prior to the start of the fall semester, the school said in a community notice distributed on Friday.
The announcement makes Assumption the first Central Massachusetts college to make coronavirus vaccinations mandatory.
The school said it will review medical, religious, or moral or freedom of conscience objections to vaccinations on a case-by-case basis, but that its goal is at least 90% of the campus community will be vaccinated by the time the fall semester begins.
With that in mind, community members will be asked to provide Assumption with proof that they have been fully vaccinated.
In the notice, the college outlined an array of anticipated changes and guidelines for campus life this fall. Among them are plans to increase residential student occupancy to 75% or more and plans to accommodate public gatherings and gatherings within residence halls, depending on state guidance. Most classes are expected to be held in-person.
Notably, fully vaccinated students will be permitted to visit other residence halls as they so choose.
All of that said, the college said it expects social distancing, masking, daily symptom tracking and regular testing to continue.
