Assumption College is adding a new bachelor's degree in finance for its upcoming fall semester.
The major will be offered at the Worcester school's new Grenon School of Business to help students prepare for jobs within finance. The college credits the growing career of the finance and insurance sector as a reason for the addition, and that it will help students with developing their knowledge and skills within the area of study.
A Bloomberg Trading Room will be added to allow students to have a more interactive experience through utilizing financial resources, as well as industry standard software such as Bloomberg Terminals. The trading room is currently under construction in the Tsotsis Family Academic Center.
“The major in finance will leverage the liberal arts education students receive at Assumption by helping them develop the ability to critically analyze quantitative and qualitative information to make informed and ethical decisions,” Colleen Fahy, the chair of Assumption's Department of Economics, Finance, and International Business, said in a statement.
Assumption will now offer many finance-related courses to complement the already existing courses in order to give students a better academic experience to fit their career studies, said Fahy.
Other new majors added in the past academic year to the college include cybersecurity, data analytics, and nursing.
