Ascentria Care Alliance, a human services nonprofit based in Worcester with a presence throughout New England, has hired Christine Tappan as the new chief of strategy and external relations. Tappan will join the executive team in strategic planning for organizational development and fundraising.
“The timing of her joining the organization could not be better as Ascentria embarks on a new strategic vision to transform how services are delivered by the human services sector. Christine will be an integral contributor and we are so fortunate she decided to bring her skills, experience and dedication to excellence to our organization,” Angela Bovill, president and CEO of Ascentria, said in a Tuesday press release.
Tappan was previously principal associate at Abt Associates, a research firm in Cambridge, where she led domestic strategy for capacity building in health and social policy. She formerly served as associate commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, according to the press release. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from the University of Michigan.
Tappan is replacing Jeffrey Kinney, who is retiring from the role.
Ascentria is the third largest human services nonprofit in Central Massachusetts, as ranked by total assets, according to data collected by the WBJ Research Department. Ascentria had $119 million in total assets at the end of fiscal 2021, ranking behind Worcester-based Seven Hills Foundation ($263 million) and Charlton-based Overlook Masonic Health Center ($148 million).
