Ascentria acquires its fifth nursing home facility, Lutheran Rehab, for $21.6M

Worcester social services nonprofit Ascentria Care Alliance announced Wednesday acquisition of the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center at 26 Harvard St. in Worcester, for $21.6 million.

A deed for 26 Harvard St., as well as 18-26 Harvard St. and 12 George St., was registered on Worcester District’s Land Registry on July 16. The purchase price for the property itself was $16.2 million, according to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds, a price not including the sale of the business.

The property at 26 Harvard St. was last assessed by the City of Worcester to be worth $4.12 million.

Ascentria owned the property for nearly 100 years before selling it to Sheehan Health Group, an elder care management corporation headquartered in Southborough, in 2012 for $3.1 million, as shown in the city assessor’s records. Sheehan operated the facility for nine years, and invested millions into renovations, according to Ascentria’s announcement.

This will become Ascentria’s fifth nursing home in New England.
