Arrhythmia Research Tech. enters supply agreement

Fitchburg-based Arrhythmia Research Technology Inc. announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Micron Products Inc., has entered into a three-year supply agreement with the Molecular Diagnostics division of Osmetech, a diagnostics firm with offices in Boston.

The agreement coincides with the launch of Micron's class 100,000 clean room, an area in which the air is repeatedly filtered to reduce airborne contaminants and impurities.

The agreement calls for Micron to supply manufacturing services to Osmetech through its New England Molders (NEM) division.  More specifically, NEM will manufacture consumable components used in Osmetechs' OPTI TUBE and OPTI GENE product lines.

The OPTI TUBE line is a patented plastic tube that offers a cost-effective alternative for glass capillaries.  The plastic design eliminates the risks posed by glass breakage, such as injuries resulting from glass shards, or exposure to dangerous samples.  The OPTI GENE instrument is designed for molecular diagnostic tests in the small to medium-sized hospital markets.

"This agreement has significant long term benefits to both Micron and Osmetech," said James Rouse, president and CEO of Arrhythmia Research Technology.  "The opportunity to support a company such as Osmetech as it grows into a leading player in the field of molecular diagnostics is a great opportunity for our NEM division and the company as a whole, and will be the first of many products to be manufactured in our new class 100,000 clean room."
