Apple to leave Solomon Pond Mall, open new storefront in Millbury

Apple is mall-hopping in Central Massachusetts as the global tech company is moving its retail store from Marlborough’s Solomon Pond Mall to The Shops at Blackstone Valley in Millbury.

The Shops’ new Apple store will open at noon on Dec. 12.

“We’re making moves. Come with us. See you soon at our brand new location in The Shops at Blackstone Valley,” reads Apple’s website. “We can’t wait to see you there.”

The soon-to-be Millbury location is one of just two Apple storefronts in Central Massachusetts; the only other Apple location is at the Natick Mall, according to Apple’s website. Apple operates a total of 11 locations throughout the Bay State.

Apple will join more than 50 other stores and restaurants at The Shops open-air shopping center, including Cold Stone Creamery, Barnes & Noble, PetSmart, Panera Bread, and Lululemon, according to the center’s website.

The mall features a 14-screen Showcase Cinema de Lux movie theater.

Apple’s announcement follows months of major construction that has been taking place in one of The Shops’ parking lots as the center prepares to open new stores.

In May, New York-based eyeglass retailer Warby Parker opened its 13th Massachusetts location at The Shops. The 5,300-square-foot storefront is positioned between The Shops’ T-Mobile and Sephora stores.

Apple’s departure from Solomon Pond comes about a year after Newbury Comics closed its location at the Marlborough mall. After Apple leaves, the mall will have about 75 businesses remaining, including Macy’s, Old Navy, El Sombrero Taqueria, and Suitmen, according to its website.
