Anna Maria College in Paxton will hold class in-person during the upcoming fall semester, beginning in August, while implementing social distancing and other measures meant to deter a potential coronavirus outbreak.
College President Mary Lou Retelle said in a statement to the school’s community administration plans to wrap up the semester before Thanksgiving, and it will rely on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the state, local public health officials and higher education organizations that provide research and best practices advice.
“Facing unprecedented times makes us more determined to continue delivering the education that has always been our hallmark – serving students who serve others,” Retelle said in the statement. “It is imperative we do not lose our momentum in producing the graduates who will make the difference in our society dealing with the very issues that plague us today – whether they be natural or social challenges –while in keeping with the founding principles of the Sisters of St. Anne.”
Like many other colleges, Anna Maria will run hybrid classes operating both remotely and in person.
Anna Maria is not alone in deciding to run the upcoming semester partially in-person. The nine state university campuses across the commonwealth plan to operate in-person classes, including those in Fitchburg, Framingham and Worcester, according to a joint announcement released last Thursday.
