Anna Maria College in Paxton has joined an increasingly long list of area schools closing down in response to the coronavirus, announcing Tuesday all instruction will be moved online and all events will be canceled for the rest of the school year.
Mary Lou Retelle, the president of Anna Maria, announced the decision in a letter on Tuesday. Beginning Monday, all classroom instruction will be moved online and all events for the rest of the year will be canceled. Student-facing offices within student life will be available online, and the school will continue outreach to students digitally to help them be successful through the end of the year.
“The guest lectures, drama productions, concerts, athletic games, and student-led events that are a highlight of the spring will be missed by many; however, there was no choice but to cancel all campus events through the end of the semester,” said Retelle in the letter. “Safeguarding the health and safety of the entire Anna Maria community is top priority.”
She said the college is developing a process for reimbursement to students for room and board.
