Anna Maria College in Paxton announced Wednesday it has started a new partnership with an Illinois community college to offer a degree in fire science.

Students will be able to complete two years at Elgin Community College in the suburbs northwest of Chicago, followed by two years online through Anna Maria.

The program will prepare students to understand the federal, state and local regulations in the field of emergency services, improve communication and media relations skills, improve knowledge in proper fire scene investigation and interpretation, and design disaster planning strategies.

A bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services administration is also available to students.

Anna Maria says it has the first fire science program to be recognized by the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education, a federal certificate program.
