Anna Maria Dumps SAT, ACT As Requirements

Anna Maria College will no longer require applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores, the Paxton-based school announced.

"After reviewing students' academic preparation and how it effects their ability to succeed at (Anna Maria) for the past several years, we found that merit and achievement in high school were becoming the major determining factors in academic success, as well as in the admissions decision making process," said Mary Lou Retelle, executive vice president at Anna Maria. "This being the case, it made sense for us to make standardized test scores optional and continue to stress academic achievement and rigor in high school as our key criteria for success at AMC."

An exception to this policy will be AMC's Bachelor of Science in Paramedic Science degree. Students applying for admission to this program will continue to be required to submit standardized test scores.

Anna Maria is not the first college in Central Massachusetts to make the SAT and ACT optional for admission. Several years ago, the College of the Holy Cross took similar action.
