Mary Lou Retelle, the executive vice president at Anna Maria College, will become interim president of the Paxton school after President Jack P. Calareso leaves in July to take on a similar role at a Long Island college.
Retelle, who has 25 years of experience in academic institutions, will serve until Anna Maria trustees find a permanent replacement. That should take about a year, the school said in a statement.
“Ms. Retelle is a seasoned administrative executive with in-depth knowledge of Anna Maria campus dynamics and a keen understanding of its many opportunities and challenges, said Sr. Yvette E. Bellerose, SSA, chair of the board of trustees. “The board’s unanimous decision on her appointment underscores our confidence in her ability to lead the institution through this critical transition.”
Retelle has served as Anna Maria’s executive vice president since 2011, overseeing functions related to admission and financial aid, student life and athletic programs.
Calareso, president at Anna Maria since 2007, will become president of St. Joseph's College, in Patchogue, N.Y., effective July 1.
“President Calareso has provided our students, faculty, board and larger community with exemplary leadership during his seven-year tenure at Anna Maria College,” Retelle said in the statement from the college. “I look forward to building on that success to further enhance the campus community and its offerings to meet our central mission of educating the next generation of professionals.”
