Anna Maria College has added two new majors to its catalog. The Paxton school will now offer data analytics and cybersecurity majors, which are meant to add to the college’s career-ready degree programming.

The offerings are in partnership with Rize Education, a course-sharing platform, according to a Wednesday announcement from Anna Maria. Rize is based in Adrian, Michigan, and was incubated at Adrian College.

“The Rize partnership is huge because they provide the subject matter experts and professors so that our students can take the courses in those fields. To create a new program and have it up and running would take us a long time. This is a turnkey solution which accelerates student access to these popular majors,” Lawrence Sasso, director of undergraduate business programs at Anna Maria, said in the announcement.

The majors will be available to Anna Maria students via the Rize platform starting in the fall. Students can take classes in data analytics and cybersecurity without enrolling in the specific majors, according to the Anna Maria announcement. Example courses are ethical hacking, cyber forensics, networking technologies, and programming and algorithms.

“It’s all about putting our students in a win-win situation and making an investment in their education. I believe it’s our duty to prepare them so that when they graduate, they don’t just get a diploma in May, they get a career that they can start as soon as possible,” Sasso said.

The move to add these offerings to the Anna Maria course lists is in response to job field assessments conducted by the college.
